SINCE Monifieth Community Centre Group’s (MCCSG) public meeting in the Panmure Hotel work has continued apace.
Negotiations have taken place involving MCCSG, council representatives including Colin McMahon, corporate management executive; Anne Bain, Angus Council finance department, Invertay House, Monifieth, and local councillor Jean Lee, in an attempt to resolve the dire situation of lack of meeting accommodation for social interaction within Monifieth Community.
An emergency temporary measure has been agreed by all involved, with the conditional offer of the lease of the empty portable building on the Invertay site being available to MCCSG only until March, 2013.
During the lease from January, 2011, MCCSG will undertake the task of managing the ‘Cabin’ for organisations and groups wishing to use the premises for a modest fee.
The work of their main project ‘the provision of a purpose built leisure and recreational facility for all age groups in Monifieth’, will continue in order to meet the time scale set out by Angus Council.
This is, to have in place by March, 2013, full planning permission and finance for the erection of the community centre building on a site owned by and on offer from Angus Council, to the group.
The £300,000 pledged by Angus Council towards the project will include the value of the preferred site.
At that meeting in the Panmure Hotel, there was a favourable response from groups, organisations and individuals who were interested in making use of the ‘cabin’.
Some people offered assistance at the setting up stage, and MCCSG would now appreciate their help.
To those who would wish to make use of this temporary solution to finding a central Monifieth meeting place, please submit in writing your request, detailing dates, type of activity and numbers of individuals involved, for consideration to MCCSG, c/o House of Memories, 55 High Street, Monifieth.
