During a recent visit to Kinblethmont Estate,Provost Helen Oswald discovered how innovative approaches to farming, energy and properties are helping the Ramsay family maintain their tight hold on the estate that’s been in their family since the 15th century.

Robert Ramsay, who runs the 3000-acre estate, explained how Kinblethmont has diversified into holiday lettings, beginning in 1999 when Kinblethmont House was rented out when the Open was at Carnoustie.

This led to a programme of transforming unused estate buildings into spacious, modern holiday cottages.

Robert introduced controlled farming techniques. “By harnessing the technology that enables tractors to steer themselves, we can use the same tracks for all agricultural operations, ensuring 80% of our arable land is never driven over by a tractor,” he said.
