People have been asked to make the most of their household recycling bins this festive period.

The council’s communities convener, Councillor Donald Morrison, said: “Most of us will have more rubbish than usual over the holidays, so don’t forget that it can be saved from landfill by being recycled and put to good use.

“As we head into the festivities, I’d like to urge all residents to use their recycling bins as much as possible and together we can make this a green Christmas.”

There will be changes to some household bin collections over the festive period from Wednesday, December 24, through to Friday, January 2. There will be no collections on December 25 and 26 January 1 and 2. Households in affected areas have been contacted directly.

There will also be a disruption to brown caddy (food waste collection) during this period. Households in affected areas have been contacted directly.

There will be no uplifts of bulky items between until January 5.

Householders can compost their tree by taking it to their local recycling centre or by putting it beside or in their green bin–trees should be cut into manageable sections.

Recycling centres will be open as normal, except for December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 2.
