The Angus Carers’ Centre held its annual Carers’ Day at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel on June 10 to send a message that ‘no one should care alone.’

It also encouraged everyone to commit to building carer-friendly communities in Angus.

Angus carers, numbering 125, attended the event - getting some well needed time away from their unpaid caring roles.

They enjoyed a number of funshops including family history, digital photography, cake decorating, African drumming, computing, table top gardening, Tai Chi, relaxation therapies, and arts & crafts, as well as the opportunity to receive more information about wills and trusts. The event also gave carers the chance to catch up with news from the Carers’ Centre.

Plans to relocate to larger premises in Arbroath later on in the year were announced after an unprecedented 530 new referrals were received from people in Angus in 2014/2015. Chairperson, Steve Nicoll said: “With the continuing demand on our services and the need to plan for the future, we are keen to work with the people of Angus to provide a centre of excellence for carers of all ages in Angus.”

Alison Myles, CEO, said: “Larger premises will allow us to provide much better facilities for carers whether they are attending our carer training programmes, our respite programmes or meeting each other for support.

‘‘Carers of all ages from all parts of Angus will be welcome at this new Hub or can continue to meet in local

venues.”
