Both Broughty Ferry lifeboats were called out on Sunday morning following reports of a person spotted in the sea at West Sands Beach, St Andrews.
The RNLI volunteers were alerted of the emergency just after 10.30am today. Both the inshore and all weather lifeboats were launched with the assistance of RNLI shore crews.
On arriving at the scene both lifeboats along with other emergency services conducted an extensive search of the coastline. The lifeboat crews were stood down when it became apparent that no one was in the water.
Both lifeboats had returned to station by 12.20pm, where they were made ready for any further call outs.
