Monifieth and District Rotary Club learned on Wednesday evening about the significant numbers of young people who act as carers for members of their family.
Alison Myles, of Angus Young Carers, addressed the meeting at the Grange Golf Club and spoke about the work of her group. Established in 2001, the charity supports 200 eight to 18 year olds who find themselves in the role of carer, whether it is for a parent, brother or sister. It is estimated that there are 700,000 young carers in the UK, and in Angus they comprise nine per cent of the population. Alasdair Macleod presided at the meeting and John Davidson proposed the vote of thanks.
