In a test of determination another group of 15 Marine wives and girlfriends including Becci Parris, Arbroath and Rachael Smith, Monifieth are proving to their Marines that they are just as tough and all in the name of the Royal Marine Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF).

They will take on a 30 mile yomp (hike) through the Scottish Highlands to emulate the original World War 2 commando training.

The Survive the Yomp trek will wind through Achnacarry, the Commando Basic Training Centre, located on the banks of the River Arkaig in Spean Bridge, Inverness-shire in September.

Resolute in their determination to prove they are capable Rachael said: “If my other half can do a 30 miler, so can I!”

Rachael and Becci met through a group that formed out of a charity campaign in 2009. The Royal Marine WAGs calendar was a fundraiser and a way of getting the girls together during long deployments.

Fundraising efforts from across all the ladies in the support network have already raised a staggering total of £20,188, smashing their target for the whole year.

To help add to the impressive amount, local magician Michael Brandie is holding a night of tricks and twists on August 22 in the Red Lion. Tickets are £10 from the Holiday Park reception. There is also a bag pack on August 8 in Dobbies and Asda, Dundee.
