Vintage and classic aircraft from around the country are expected to head to the event, which is being held over Saturday and Sunday (August 26 & 27) between 10am and 4pm on both days.

The focus will be on Broomfield Playing fields, formerly part of the World War I and World War II air station, although activities will be divided between that location and the heritage centre itself nearby.

There will be displays of vintage cars, bikes and military vehicles provided by the Scottish Military Group as well as the airstation’s own GB2MAS radio station.

As well as the fly-in, airborne activities will include introductory flights from Alba Airsport's with their gyrocopters and Montrose Model Aeroclub will stage a display of their model aircraft.

Formed at Montrose in 1944, the club is one of the oldest in the country and is still going strong.

In addition, there will be static displays of aircraft provided from Alexander Air in Dyce and the Scottish Aero Club, based at Perth and a number of children’s rides.

Marking the 110th anniversary of RFC and RAF Montrose, in late afternoon Angus paramotor group will join the event for the first time with a static display of Paramotor equipment which embraces the original Royal Flying Corps Pioneer Flyers who first landed at Broomfield in 1913.

Over at the museum, its collection of aircraft and artefacts will be open – including its recently acquired Tornado GR4 – with period dressed re-enactors bringing the airstation’s history to life.

The shop will also be open, selling a great selection of goods and souvenirs, and fish and chips, burgers, ice creams and tea and coffee will be available, as well as a number of stalls selling vintage model kits, fashion items and bric-a-brac. To top it all off, there will be music throughout the day.

Those attending are welcome to take along their own picnics and make a day of it and, admission will be by donation on entry.
