THE CARNOUSTIE Skatepark Committee had a profitable time during the Gala celebrations last week, writes Johnston Ralston.
Their stall at the Gala Day fete in the Carnoustie House Grounds did a roaring trade raising more than £400 and gaining an additional 280 signatures in support of the skatepark project.
The committee asked people to guess the birthday of a giant Teddy and sold raffle tickets for a chance to win one of more than 40 prizes.
Carnoustie Skatepark Committee’s treasurer Carine Soutar was very pleased with the outcome. She said: “We need to be able to demonstrate such strong support for the skatepark when we approach potential funders.
“It is very noticeable to us that the campaign now resonates with all age groups in the town, with many young people stopping to ask about the details of our plans and showing their support by donating to our campaign.
“The boys behind the campaign are maintaining their efforts and we had 10 boys out on Gala Day raising funds, petitioning for support and helping other stallholders in the cleanup at the end of the day.
“The boys were soaked by the rain, but enjoyed the day and are very grateful for the support they are receiving. We even recruited another adult on to our committee, so all in all we had a good week.”
The giant Teddy Bear’s birthday was correctly guessed by Ella Kidd as being December 12 and the committee are currently in the process of contacting the raffle winners.
