A NEW six-a-side community football initiative will kick off at Pitskelly Park on Thursday, June 21, and organisers are appealing for local teams to register ahead of the big opening.
The inaugural 14-week season will run every Thursday between 7 and 9 p.m. on the Astroturf pitch and there is space available for 12 teams to take part with five places already reserved by registered teams.
Community football manager Paul Spacey said: “We will be compiling top goalscorer charts while league tables and results will be updated immediately after matches finish which will help to give a really professional feel to proceedings.
“The main thing is that local teams and players can come out and enjoy the event each week without worrying about any hassle or organisation as we will take care of everything, including organising referees.
“We need a minimum of 10 teams to make the league viable and with half that number already registered I am confident we will get enough interest to kick off as scheduled on June 21.”
The initiative will be affiliated through the Scottish Amateur Football Association with qualified referees officiating all matches which last 40 minutes. There is no entry or registration fee and teams are able to use flexible squads throughout the season.
Top quality individual trophies will be given to winners and runners-up while there is also a top goalscorer award.
Anyone interested in taking part should contact 07854 848407 or visit the website www.communityfootball.net to register online.
