AROUND 100 people attended the public meeting in Carnoustie High School to discuss the provision of a skatepark in Carnoustie.

The two young people who initiated the online petition, Kieran Bell and Andrew Patterson, put their case eloquently and succinctly to the gathering.

Chaired by the local community planning officer, Nicky McCrimmon, the meeting heard the three local councillors speak in support of the skatepark, a site for which has already been identified adjacent to the existing small skate facility behind the Beach Hall.

Councillor Helen Oswald added that she had spoken to the community Council, the Crime Prevention Panel, the Gala Committee, Carnoustie Development Group and the Golf Links Management Committee, all of whom supported the concept

Following questions from the floor, it was agreed a steering group would be formed and interested parties came forward to volunteer.

The group will comprise adults and young people and their first meeting is to be held within the next two weeks when a plan of action will be discussed.
