ANGUS Writers’ Circle members were set a challenge for their club meeting last Wednesday, when they were asked to produce a 700-word short story using the three words, ‘monkey’, ‘refrigerator’ and ‘dungeon’.
There were eight entries and five members volunteered to be judges. Dr Eric Yeaman provided prizes and presented them to the winners.
The stories dealt with many different subjects including murder, child trafficking, unemployment and drug dealing. There was a lot of ingenuity in the way the set words were used, but the result was a clutch of entertaining, funny, thought provoking tales.
Winners were: 1, Ann Craig with ‘Human Frailty; 2, Grace Murray; 3, Tom Eharl.
The Angus Writers’ Circle meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month from 7.30 to 10 p.m. in the Rosely Hotel, Arbroath. Further details from Eleanor Fordyce on 01307 465056.
