Speakers’ Club’s varied evening

Have your say

ARBROATH Speakers’ Club president Robert Hill welcomed 14 members and seven guests from the Dundee Speakers’ Club to the meeting held last Thursday in the Meadowbank.

Speakers chair Jim Christie presented his programme of four speeches to be delivered by Jackie Barrack, Eddie Wilmott, Christine Watkin and Barrie Johnston, a member of the Dundee club.

First up was Jackie Barrack who chose ‘The Speakers’ Club and Me’ as the title of her maiden speech.

Eddie Wilmott’s speech ‘Reflections’, an exercise in the art of word pictures, conjured up memories of the various forms of transport

Taking as his title ‘Money, Money Money’, Barrie Johnston’s speech proved to be a whistle-stop reflection of his life in commerce.

The final speaker of the evening, Christine Watkin, delivered a Powerpoint presentation of her recent visit to Gozo.

Topics master, Stefan Pocula put on an hilarious topics session based on the general subject of numerology, but with a decided twist.

This allowed plenty of scope for Arbroath members Robert Ramsay, Sharon Cummings, and Eric Buick together with Dundee visitors Stuart Gallacher, Philip Scott and Colin Hodkinson to demonstrate their prowess in the art of impromptu speaking

The speeches were evaluated by Robert Hill, John Craig, Dundee SC; Elisabeth Hill and Norma Findlay.

The next meeting of the Arbroath Speakers Club is an open night in the Stables Bar at the Meadowbank on Thursday (November 8).

Building on the success of last year’s event, anyone interested in going along for a taster session should arrive at the venue at 7.15 for a 7.30 p.m. start.

Light refreshments will be served midway through the evening that will finish around 9.30 p.m.
