LOCAL optometrist, Steven Whittaker, from Arbroath, who practises at 58 High Street, Carnoustie, has recently been awarded his Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society.
He is a keen amateur photographer and is a member of the Carnoustie Photo Group.
To obtain this distinction he had to produce 10 prints that showed his level of skills in seeing the image, taking the photograph and then producing the final image.
His panel was assessed by five senior RPS members and they were looking at technical and artistic content, clarity, sharpness, exposure and the overall message conveyed by the image.
Steven is delighted with his achievement and was keen to highlight the support and encouragement he had received from his fellow Carnoustie Photo Group members, and from the Scottish RPS.
Another group member, Ken Drysdale, was awarded his Associateship for a strong panel of 15 nature images in February.
Carnoustie Photo Group meets weekly in the YMCA in Carnoustie from September to May, and monthly during the summer.
The Royal Photographic Society’s distinctions are internationally respected and sought after by professional and amateur photographers. Over 1,000 applications for these awards are received each year, with around 600 being successful.
Carnoustie Photo Group’s next exhibition opens in Carnoustie Library on Wednesday (August 1) and will run until to September 1.
