Sunday start for Broughty Gala Week

Broughty Ferry’s Gala Day on Sunday, July 5, signals the start of the seaside town’s long-established and popular Gala Week, which runs until Sunday, July 12.

This year’s event follows a successful year for the town with record attendances at the key events, Gala Day and the Christmas Lights Night, nomination as ‘Best Neighbourhood in the UK’, a peak in members of the Traders association and the launch of a new website.

These successes are due to the tireless enthusiasm of the volunteers who give so much of their valuable time. On Gala Day itself, good old-fashioned family fun takes centre stage. Entry to the fete is free but a bucket collection and fund-raising activities raise money, which is donated to local charities including The Lifeboat.

Gerry Stewart, chair of The Broughty Ferry Community Gala Committee, said: “We have even more events than ever, so more people can come along to join in all the fun. I must thank all helpers, organisers and my many friends, who have worked so hard in order to make this one of the best Gala weeks ever!

“I would also like to give a very sincere thanks to all our sponsors and to Dundee City Council who are great supporters of Gala Week. A very special thank you goes to our main sponsor, Graham Baird of Belhaven Brewery.

“We’re looking forward to a wonderful Summer in 2015, and to welcoming lots of Ferry folk and visitors to our Gala Week.”

There are several events every day of the week including the Sand Sculpture Competition, Pavement Drawing Competition, Quiz Nights, Family Fun Night, Fishing Competition, Bonnie Baby Competition and many more. Full listings are available on www.cometobroughty.co.uk
