With winter fast approaching, Graeme Dey, MSP for Angus South, has today (Monday) called on his constituents to take advantage of free help for their energy bills.

County residents may be entitled to extra support from the UK Government and their energy supplier if they meet certain criteria.

Last year thousands of Scottish Gas customers received the Warm Home Discount – a one off discount of £135 on the electricity bill, rising to £140 this year.

Mr Dey said: “There are a number of simple steps that every constituent should take to make sure they are doing all they can to keep their bills down and their home warm. You don’t need to be a Scottish Gas customer to apply. For more information on the Scottish Gas Energy Trust, visit: scottishgasenergytrust.org.uk

“It is really important to be prepared for winter and I want all my constituents in Angus South to understand what help is available for them, and for their family and friends. Being energy efficient and keeping bills under control is so important and I advise everyone in Angus South to get in touch with their energy supplier to find out what support is on offer.”

Kevin Roxburgh, managing director of Scottish Gas, said: “We know that household budgets are tight and many people will be concerned about their winter energy bill. There is help available, and we urge customers to get in touch to find out what advice and support is on offer. It’s free to call us, and we can offer immediate support with bills as well as help with energy efficiency that will have an effect now and in the years to come.”

The Scottish Gas Energy Trust is an independent charitable trust that offers advice and support for people who are struggling with their household bills. Since its formation a decade ago, Scottish Gas has provided the Trust with more than £75 million to help 120,000 people across Britain with grants and debt advice.

Scottish Gas has teamed up with three debt centres in Scotland to fund support workers to help people apply for grants and provide face-to-face advice. You don’t need to be a customer of the energy giant to apply and can find out more information from: scottishgasenergytrust.org.uk
