A YOUNG Carnoustie fashion designer has been nominated for the Young Designer of the Year prize at a top awards show.
Samantha McEwan (22), who is a former Carnoustie High School pupil, has been recognised for her work on her own fashion label she set up called Isolated Heroes.
And on June 11 she will travel to the Clyde Auditorium for the Scottish Fashion awards, hosted by TV fashion icon Alexa Chung, to see if she has been successful.
Samantha only graduated from Heriot-Watt University School of Textile and Design in June of last year and has crammed so much into the 10 months since that time.
Last year she was commissioned to make outfits for the 2011 MTV Video Music awards in Los Angeles and has since designed clothes for celebrities such as American rappers Azealia Banks and Kreayshawn.
Samantha’s Isolated Heroes label is characterised by vivid clashing colours, distinct tribal prints, oversized silhouettes and over embellishment.
It focuses on the street wear market and is a unisex label.
And with Samantha being busy ever since graduating from university she shows no sign of slowing down.
She said: “I have also had work featured in i-D magazine, Dazed and Confused and Vice Style.
“And last Tuesday I was confirmed to show on the Zeitgeist stage at Brighton Fashion Week which will be our first independent show since graduating showcasing our new collection to 800 people.
“The Scottish Fashion Awards is by far my highest achievement to date as I am the youngest member in the category by far at 22 and only graduated last June.
“To be nominated for such a prestigious award as Young Designer of the Year is both exciting and overwhelming.”
