Tartan Day events could reap rewards

Angus Ahead is already looking towards Tartan Day Scotland 2013.

Tartan Day is a celebration which marks the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath on April 6, 1320, a date which is also marked across Canada and America to celebrate the best of Scottish achievement, past and present.

Angus has led the Scottish Tartan Day celebrations since 2004 and the Angus Council’s aim is to see Scotland and Angus at the centre of a global Tartan Day Festival by 2020, the 700th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath.

Since 2004, many of the county’s communities and businesses have supported Tartan Day by organising their own events and activities.

The ‘Tartan Day Scotland Festival’ will take place next year from Friday, March 29, to Sunday, April 7, and event organisers, community groups, businesses and partners are to be asked to provide details of Tartan Day events they are planning.

Angus Ahead are also approaching local cafes, restaurants, hotels and pubs to consider introducing a special Tartan Day Menu during next year’s festival. They suggest that these menus have a Scottish theme, with a focus on local produce.

All Tartan Day events and menus will be featured in the Tartan Day Scotland Festival programme and on www.tartandayscotland.com

The programme will be distributed locally and to accommodation providers and visitor attractions within a 90-minute drive of Angus.

Angus Ahead will also be using the Tartan Day Scotland facebook site to promote and encourage support for Tartan Day 2013.

A spokeswoman said: “Please ‘like’ our page to keep up to date with Tartan Day Scotland news!”

If you wish to get involved and benefit from this free promotional opportunity, or know of a business or group who may be interested in the Tartan Day Scotland Festival 2013, the forms are available to be completed or downloaded online.

The closing date for responses is January 11, 2013.

There is a Tartan Day events form; and a Tartan Day menus form

Angus Ahead will provide copies of the Tartan Day Scotland Festival programme and promotional posters in February, as well as blank poster templates which can be personalised with your individual event or menu details.

The spokeswoman added: “This is a wonderful opportunity to promote the best of Angus to the local community as well as to visitors to the area.

“We look forward to receiving details of Tartan Day 2013 events and menus.
