TESCO staff in Monifieth will join forces with colleagues across the UK to take part in a £1 million festive fund-raising weekend that looks set to the biggest ever held by the supermarket.
For the first time all Tesco stores, head offices and distribution centres will be joining together to ‘Cycle to Lapland’ and raise money for Cancer Research UK from today (Friday) to Sunday, December 7 to 9.
Staff from the Monifieth Superstore will share stints on a static bicycle, hoping to clock up enough miles to reach the home of Father Christmas.
The cycling will form part of a range of exciting in-store activities, including ‘find Santa’ for the children, lucky dips, dressing up days, car park lottery, Santa’s Grotto and much more to raise money for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.
Cancer Research UK is Tesco’s charity of the year for 2012 and the staff at the Monifieth store are aiming to raise as much money as possible to help hit the £1 million target.
The money to be raised by Tesco, its staff, customers and suppliers-will help fund 32 vital early diagnosis research projects across the UK.
Tesco and Cancer Research UK will also be working together to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of cancer, reduce peoples’ anxiety about the disease and encourage them to visit the doctor if they notice anything unusual.
Every two minutes, someone in the UK is told that they have cancer. Money from ‘Cycle to Lapland’ will help support research into earlier diagnosis and detection to help more people survive and keep families together longer.
