If you are looking for somewhere homely, inviting and thoroughly enjoyable to have a bite to eat - then look no further than No. 63 in Edzell.

No. 63’s menu is brimming full of strictly-local delights.

From soup, sandwiches and paninis to salads, cakes and mouth-watering coffees, this wee gem of a cafe has a menu that is sure to delight.

My partner and I headed to No. 63 recently, situated at 63 High Street, to enjoy a relaxing lunch.

To start, I had a triple cheese and tomato sandwich which was stuffed with three varieties of tasty Devenick Dairy cheese while my partner had an egg sandwich made with Tillygloom’s beautiful free-range eggs.

Both of the plates were garnished with a fresh salad and a generous handful of crisps, as well as No. 63’s delicious home-made coleslaw which is made with luxury mayonnaise.

To accompany the food I had a Fentimans ginger beer and my partner had the most delicious strawberry milkshake, which was topped off with whipped cream and marshmallows.

To round off the afternoon we enjoyed a lemon and poppy seed scone with Isabella’s lemon curd, which was absolutely heavenly, and a very generous helping of Devenick cheesecake which was made with Orkney fudge.

The desserts were washed down with a couple of lattes which had that perfect silky texture.

The atmosphere in No. 63 cannot be faulted.

The cafe is decorated with plenty of different items which can be purchased, with many vintage items also supplied locally.

Sharon, the owner of the cafe, uses her premises to showcase local artwork which is also for sale.

At the entrance to the cafe there is a massive selection of flowers, as Sharon can put together the most beautiful arrangements to suit any occasion.

For the finer months ahead there is also outdoor seating - so let’s keep our fingers crossed for some sunshine!
