The strike in Angus

A NATIONAL strike of public sector workers this week appears not to have caused quite as much disruption in Angus as feared.

On Wednesday staff from schools, the NHS, airports and councils went on strike over proposed government changes to their pay and conditions.

However, in some areas at least, the impact was not quite so pronounced. In Carnoustie council workers were out collecting recyclable materials, and although yesterday morning (Thursday) there were many bins out for collection some at least had been emptied on the Wednesday.

Arbroath Sheriff Court appeared to be running on a skeleton staff, but cases continued with little or no appreciable disruption.

Angus schools were already off for St Andrew’s Day, but parents had to make alternative childcare arrangements as nurseries and kids’ clubs closed.
