THE ABOUKIR Grumpies continue their combined plan of local charity fund-raising and having fun, by building a large greenhouse shed in the grounds of the Aboukir Hotel.
With the agreement of owners Dave Scorgie and Craig Ross, in return for keeping the garden tidy, they have its use for growing flowers, herbs and vegetables as part of their local charity fund-raising efforts.
Local joiner Bill Scorgie (Dave’s younger brother) is leading the building of the greenhouse in order to extend the options of what can be grown.
The Grumpies intend to hold at least two plant sales during the spring and summer months for local charity donations.
An earlier fund-raiser, The Aboukir Grumpies’ ‘Book of Bull’, describing local Carnoustie Grumps, now has only a few copies left on the shelves of MacDougal’s Paper Shop, The High Street and Barry Road Spar shops, and the Aboukir Hotel.
Sadly, about 20 copies were lost in the recent laundry fire.
The cost is £2.50 per book, and proceeds will be donated to local charities.
Due to its popularity, it is hoped that a second edition can be published in the not too distant future.
