More than £15,000 in donations were made last week to worthy causes in Carnoustie, courtesy of the charitable trust run by the Golf Links.
On Thursday evening at the Golf Centre, Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee presented a total of £15,500 to Carnoustie Theatre Club, Carnoustie Memories Club, Colourful Carnoustie, Carnoustie & District Horticultural Society, Church of the Holyrood, Carnoustie & Monifieth’s Men’s Shed, Carnoustie Ladies Golf Club and Carnoustie Community Development Trust.
Chairman of CGLMC, Pat Sawers, said: “I am delighted to be able to present these awards today as I know how much groups such as yourselves contribute to not only to the lives of individuals but also to the communal life of Carnoustie. We know how difficult fundraising can be, so we hope today’s awards whilst possibly not paying in full for your projects, will at least help towards meeting your target. Having gained Charitable status we are pleased to now being able to assist various organisations in the local area with funding.”
All of the recipients expressed their thanks to the Links and that the generous awards were much appreciated. A spokesman for Carnoustie Coastguard Association was pleased to know that CGLMC were to cover the insurance costs each coming year for their fireworks display.
Convenor of the Community Benefit Trust, Graeme Paton, noted that since being awarded Charitable Status in 2014, CGLMC had disbursed awards in the region of £200,000 and that the Links was looking forward even more to awarding funding to local organisations in May and November in 2017.
