Top RAF training award for Thomas

An adult leader with 2449 (Carnoustie) Squadron has recently been named top student at a training course at RAF College Cranwell.

Adult Sergeant Thomas Podger received the plaudit following the ATC Senior NCO Staff Initial Course at the RAF training centre.

He said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a cadet and I am very grateful for the opportunities and skills the organization has provided me; both within the cadets and in my civilian career.

“I now look forward to the giving back to the ATC through my role as an Adult Sgt where I will work with the cadets to develop their skills which will help them in their futures.”

Now fully appointed, Sgt Podger will remain at 2449 (Carnoustie) Squadron where he was a cadet working alongside his fellow staff members to oversee the next generation of young adults achieve their potential.

Sgt Podger joined the squadron in 2008, progressing through the ranks to the most senior cadet position of Cadet Warrant Officer in 2012. A highlight of his career was attending the International Air Cadet Exchange visit to Ghana in 2013.

Anyone aged between 12 and 17 looking to learn more about aviation and develop personal skills is welcome to join the Air Training Corps.
