Monifieth is set to see train services treble at the town’s station from December after ScotRail announced a new timetable.

Currently, Monifieth is only served by two trains daily from Monday to Saturday.

But as of the timetable expansion, which begins on December 13, Monifeith will also have a 08.11 train to Edinburgh, a 17.57 train to Arbroath, a 18.31 service to Edinburgh and a 23.14 train to Aberdeen.

ScotRail managing director Steve Montgomery said: “Our decision to treble the number of trains at Monifieth on weekdays and Saturdays reflects the strong demand for rail services in the area.

“We are confident the expanded timetable will be welcomed by residents and visitors alike – and make it easier for our customers to travel to and from the town.”

Graeme Dey, MSP for Angus South, has been working closely with ScotRail to secure enhanced rail provision for Monifieth.

And he added: “I must pay tribute to ScotRail for the positive way in which they responded to my asking them to look at having more trains stop in Monifieth.

“I know from the many months of work which have gone in to this that finding scope within the timetable to furnish the town with better access to rail wasn’t altogether easy, but the willingness on their part to make
this happen was tremendous.

“This is a real step forward in delivering appropriate direct access to rail for Monifieth. I would encourage the people of the town to take full advantage of the new services when they come into operation because if we
can demonstrate a high level of usage then it strengthens the case for having additional trains stopping there in future.”

The enhanced services at Monifieth have been developed in liaison with Tactran and Angus Council.
