A CARNOUSTIE schoolboy is set to take part in one of the biggest events in the footballing calendar.

Aidan Downey (10), pictured, who attends Burnside Primary School has been picked as one of the mascots who will help lead the players out at tomorrow’s (Saturday) FA Cup final at Wembley.

The final is being contested by Manchester City and Stoke City and Aidan will be part of the team leading out the Potters.

The partner of his mum, Tania, works for energy provider E On, sponsors of the FA Cup and an online competition for its employees saw Aidan picked to become a mascot.

The family will travel to London today (Friday) and Aidan will get the chance to mingle with the Premier League stars.

He is a Liverpool fan and although he is disappointed his team did not make the final, he is glad that their arch rivals Manchester United also fell at the last hurdle and won’t be playing at Wembley.
