SOME of Arbroath’s very best singers, dancers and musicians will be performing in a spectacular show in the Webster Memorial Theatre on Friday and Saturday, September 16 and 17.

Edwina Barraclough and James Hutcheson have pulled together a first class cast of over 150 local performers for the Follow The Light show, which is part of Arbroath’s Year of the Light celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the Bell Rock Lighthouse.

“Arbroath has a wealth of musical talent which this celebration of the Bell Rock Lighthouse will certainly highlight,” said Edwina, who, with James Hutcheson, is producing and directing the show.

“The cast list includes a fantastic selection of soloists, choirs, dancers, bands and groups, including Angus Minstrels, Appolinari Dance Studio, Arbroath Male Voice Choir, George Cowan, Colette Dear, James Hutcheson, In Harmony, Danny Laverty, Linda Napier School of Dance, Eileen Robb, Stagecraft School of Dancing and Violet Thomson.

“We also have a late addition to our programme,” revealed Edwina, who added that the show is sponsored by Bairds Malt, Blackadders, The Bell Rock and Findlay & Company. “Pipe Major Stephen Russell of Arbroath British Legion Pipe Band is going to play the wonderful tune he’s composed to celebrate Arbroath’s celebrations of the bicentenary of the Bell Rock Lighthouse, ‘Year of the Light’.”

Edwina explained that the theme of first half of the show will be the sea, while the second half will focus on ‘light’. “The grand finale will truly celebrate the Bell Rock and its iconic lighthouse,” said Edwina. “All the performers will participate in the final act so there will be over 150 stars on the stage – but the brightest of all will be our giant model of the Bell Rock Lighthouse, complete with flashing light, which was designed and constructed by Garry Mitchell.”

Harry Simpson, chair of the Year of the Light steering committee, which is supported by Angus Council’s Local Community Planning Team, said: “Edwina and James are entertainment experts and Follow The Light promises to be a fabulous evening of music, song and dance.

“This show perfectly combines Arbroath’s long tradition of musical excellence with its centuries-old connections with the sea and the bicentenary of the Bell Rock Lighthouse.”

Tickets for Follow The Light cost £12 and are available from Webster Memorial Theatre Box Office on 01241 435800 or at www.webstertheatre.co.uk, with all proceeds going to local charities.
