You can still licence your car at a Post Office

Angus MP Mike Weir, SNP spokesperson on postal services, has welcomed the news that the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has awarded the contract to provide DVLA services to Post Office Limited.

Mr Weir said: “This is a rare piece of good news for the Post Office, and follows a massive campaign organised by the National Federation of Sub Postmasters.

“This campaign generated a huge number of postcards from all over Angus expressing concerns over the potential loss of these services.

“It is by far the largest campaign I can remember in recent years.

“Clearly this has had a strong impact on DVLA and government, and has led to this important decision.

“The award of the contract is good news in that it will stabilise an income stream for many sub post offices, but it is important that Post Office Limited builds upon this to ensure that the full range of DVLA services are available in as many of is branches as possible.

“There also remains a challenge to both government and Post Office limited to build on this announcement by making good on the promise to make the Post Office the front office for government.”
