With Aberdeenshire losing to West of Scotland at Hamilton Crescent on Saturday, Forfarshire moved to within six points of the league leaders with a 32 run away victory at Arbroath.
The heavy rains of last week meant the Lochlands wicket was not easy to score quickly on, and at 105 for five in the 36th over, a partnership was needed to push the total up to a competitive one.

Umair Mohammed, 36, and Peter Drummond, 18 not out, responded by putting on 48 for the seventh wicket to see Forfarshire finish on 179 for eight from their 50 overs.

Dougie Philip took a sharp return catch to remove Arbroath's Petrie with the total on 27 and from there on 'Shire took wickets at regular intervals to keep control of the game. Graeme Quinn bowled another tight 10 overs, taking two for 21 including home pro Johnston from his first delivery. Umair Mohammed's three for 36 then saw the run-rate rising to to more than eight in the last few overs and this proved just too many for Arbroath, who were all out for 147 in the 47th over.

This weekend's fixtures:

Tomorrow (Saturday) - Forfarshire v Freuchie, Lloyds TSB Scotland League Division 1; Dundee High School FP v Forthill, Dukes Strathmore and Perthshire Union Premier Division.

Sunday - Forthill XI v Breadalbane, Dukes Strathmore and Perthshire Union Division 1.
