On Sunday, Carnoustie Panmure travelled to Brownlands Park, Luncarty, for their sixth and final pre-season friendly before the start of the season proper tomorrow (Saturday).
With Jonnie Thompson and Garry McLauchlin working, Gavin Beith on holiday, Steven Cook and John McCafferty both carrying injuries, and Scott Robertson in hospital, the Gowfers were even more short-handed than of late and in fact did not have a single
substitute available to put on the bench.
However, Daryn Smith and Robert Hendry were back from holiday and both played the full game.
After a goal-less first half, with Carnoustie well on top, they finally opoened the scoring in 51 minutes. Scott won a corner off Christie and from Muhsin's cross, HENDRY rose to power a header into the net.
Ten minutes later, Carnoustie increased their lead when Voigt went up for a Conway cross with a defender and the ball dropped to COLLIER, who drilled it past Christie into the net.
In 70 minutes, Conway made another great run up the left, almost to the bye-line before crossing low and hard to COLLIER, who nipped in on the blind-side to slide home for the Gowfers' third.
Carnoustie continued to press and went four up in 77 minutes when CONWAY made yet another great run up the left and cut inside before unleashing a fierce shot, which Christie got a hand to, but failed to prevent it crossing the line.
With six minutes remaining, a long kick-out by the Gowfer's 'keeper cleared the heads of the home defence and VOIGT, judging his run to perfection, took a great first touch then ran on to drill the ball low past Christie into the corner of the net for number five.
