The club has been operating out of its Forthill Sports Centre base for a couple of years now and, after receiving numerous enquiries, club coach Dave Hammond has agreed to start a junior section at the same time as expanding the existing adults' clas
ses.
Mr Hammond is an experienced junior judo coach who has worked for Midlothian Council and previously ran a junior club in the Borders.
He has also taught in Dundee schools and is a level II coach, who gained his first coaching qualification via the Inner London Education Authority.
He said: "Everything has always been in place for a junior section. I have Disclosure Scotland, the relevant insurance and first aid qualification, but have been concentrating on my senior club which is going very well.
"Recently I had a number of enquires and the children of some of my adults want to join in, so now seems the right time to get things going in Broughty Ferry."
Judo is an Olympic sport, practiced around the world, but it has its origins in martial arts and is a good way of learning self-respect, respect for others and getting fit.
Anyone wishing to join the club can contact Dave Hammond on 07525 451454 or via the website at dundeejudo.co.uk.
Friday classes will run from 6.15 to 7.30 p.m. junior (eight-year-olds upwards) and 7.30 to 8.30 p.m. seniors. Tuesdays remain 7.30 to 9.30 p.m., adults only.
The club is situated at Forthill Sports Centre, Fintry Place, Broughty Ferry.
