Stobswell 6, Carnoustie HSFP 45

CARNOUSTIE continued on league business on Saturday with a visit to Downfield to play Stobswell.
The ground was well grassed and firm without any hard spots, there was little wind and it was dry overhead.

Stobswell kicked off towards the 22- line and with a slow follow-up the ball receiver Owen Hughes ran clear to half-way. He fed to Bruce Langlands who made ground before passing to Grant Langlands in space, allowing him to run clear to the line wit
h the conversion added. Apart from the kick-off Stobswell had not touched the ball.

The home side regathered by failing to clear the 10-metre line, giving Carnoustie a scrum on the centre line. The scrum was won and the ball chipped ahead but the home side gathered and cleared.

Stobswell won the line-out but dropped the ball in midfield. It was snapped up by FPs, quickly recycled and sent wide with good hands to Nathan Bowles who dashed into the corner, too far out for the conversion.

A drop-out was recovered by Carnoustie and played to Dean Nicholson but the visitors were penalised, to no avail.

The Dundee side won the line-out and sent the ball through the hands without making much ground, but sufficient to allow the subsequent penalty to be kicked, giving the home team points on the board.

Carnoustie forwards were offside at the kick-off, Stobswell winning the scrum and driving, but they were penalised for holding on. The penalty found touch, the line-out won and the ball sent wide right, quickly recycled and fed equally quickly left to find Stewart Millar in space which he used to good effect to cross for another converted try.

The restart was not cleanly taken and Stobswell took possession of the ball but conceded two penalties in succession.

The second was tapped and played through the hands before being chipped to find touch five metres from the line. Stobswell tapped the ball back but not to hand. Aaron Ringcell was first to respond, pinching the ball and diving over the line. The conversion was missed but with less than 20 minutes played the bonus point was in the bag.

A penalty failed to find touch but Stobswell let this ball go loose. FPs recovered it and chipped to the right for the quick following up Chris Rankin to gather and cross with full points.

The restart was taken cleanly and sent through the hands, recycled and again sent through the hands but forced to touch. The line-out was won and driven to the line but the ball was held up. The scrum was won and run but the ball carrier was pulled up for accidental offside.

The home side won the scrum and a penalty gained which was tapped and chipped to touch, the line-out won and the ball played to Grant Langlands who had sufficient space to cross with the conversion added.

The restart was taken by Craig Addison before being chipped and regathered but passed forward.
