Carnoustie Panmure 2, Glenrothes 2
Carnoustie Panmure's slim hopes of Whyte & Mackay East Super League survival were kept alive, but only just, by a hard-fought 2-2 home draw with fellow strugglers Glenrothes at Laing Park on Saturday afternoon.
In order to stay up, the Gowfers must now win their remaining league fixture at home to Whitburn and hope that both Glenrothes and Hill of Beath Hawthorn fail to take anything from their last four games. A long shot or what!

Against the run of play it was Glenrothes who opened the scoring in eight minutes. Cook conceded a corner from an Andrew cross and with the Gowfers' defence caught ball-watching, Duffy picked out the unmarked FORTUNE, who headed high into the roof of the net from close-in to put the Glens ahead.

Carnoustie were back level in 68 minutes. Voigt sent a high lob into the goalmouth and as the Glens' defence stood and watched WILKIE followed in to head past Guppy from close-in with his first touch of the ball.

The Gowfers were unfortunate in 84 minutes when McCafferty did well to block a Mills shot, but the ball rebounded to GIBSON, who hammered an unstoppable shot high into the net from 30 yards to put the Fifers back in front.

Meikle took a knock in 85 minutes and was replaced by Drummond.
Things were now looking bleak for Carnoustie on the relegation front, but in 86 minutes Conway fired a low cross into the six yard box where it was met by super sub WILKIE, who slid the ball into the net from four yards to give the Gowfers a Super League lifeline.

Carnoustie now pressed for a winner, but it was Glenrothes who came nearest to scoring in the dying seconds. Robertson fouled Nicoll 25 yards out, but Gartshore's free kick was well saved by McCafferty, who was undoubtedly the Gowfers' man-of-the-match.

Panmure could be relegated without even kicking a ball.
If Glenrothes win away to Bathgate Thistle and Hill of Beath take at least one point from their visit to Bonnyrigg Rose, then the Gowfers are down. It could all be over by 4.15 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday).

Meanwhile, Carnoustie's next scheduled match is the Challenge Cup quarter-final against Lochee United, on Monday at Laing Park with a 7 p.m. kick-off.
