Boxing Day results from Carlogie Dam

THE BOXING Day competition at Carlogie Dam had nine anglers taking part and between them they caught 70 fish.

The winner was David Roy, Barnhill, who caught 13 weighing 36lbs and the runner-up, also with 13 fish, was Bruce Thomson, Arbroath, who was beaten by only 7ozs as his weight was 35lbs 9ozs. In third place was Ally Stewart, Dundee, who caught 12 weighing 33lbs 2ozs, and fourth was Walter Senior, Aberdeen, with 12 weighing 32lbs 12ozs.

Other entries were Jim Doyle, Montrose, who caught eight weighing 22lbs 12ozs; Dave Wood, Aberdeen, five weighing 12lbs 12ozs; and Jock Ewing, Aberdeen, four weighing 8lbs 12ozs. The heaviest fish of the day was caught by Dave Moodie, Carnoustie, who landed a rainbow weighing 6lbs 2ozs.

Heavy rain affects fishing

FISHING at Forbes of Kingennie was fairly quiet with all the heavy rain. There was some flooding but it has all drained off with all the ponds back to normal level although they are still holding colour.

The bankside has been the most consistent with some great bags of fish coming out to those who crack the method. Small flies still seem to be the best method, crunchers, black buzzers and cormorants have been the top patterns. Pulled lures just don’t seem to be tacking many fish but the orange blob has still been taking its fair share.

The Barlow took 20 fish in just three hours - ‘wee stuff’ on the washing line. The Burnside has fished best to big black lures. The deeper water seems to be holding the dirty water quite badly but good numbers of fish have been taken by those who have persevered.

The Boathouse has cleared well and is getting better by the day.
