10-man Gowfers lose at Ballingry

Ballingry Rovers 2, Carnoustie Panmure 1

After their demolition job on Colony Park in the Scottish Cup, the Gowfers travelled to Ore Park on Saturday to meet Ballingry Rovers in the league.

Carnoustie kicked off and Milne was pulled up straight away for a foul on Sinclair. Moffat then fouled Perera out on the left, but Buggins’ free-kick was too strong and was wasted. Roberts fed a through ball to McIlravey, but his shot, from the edge of the box, was blocked by Fleming.

The visitors nearly paid for being slipshod when Millar lost the ball to Smith and he passed to Carstairs, but the Ballingry player’s shot came back off the post.

In 20 minutes Bews was booked for a foul on Moffat 40 yards out and Manzie’s free-kick was headed clear by Robertson. A minute later Rovers took the lead when McDonald laid a fine ball from the right to CARSTAIRS and from 25 yards out he blasted the ball high into the net.

Carnoustie pressed forward and Cook made progress up the right and slipped the ball to Milne, but his shot, from a tight angle, was held by Allison at the foot of the post. Robertson conceded a corner on the left and the kick, by Manzie, landed for McDonald on the edge of the box, but his drive was cleared off the line by Roberts.

Then a low cross by Carstairs put the Gowfers’ defence under pressure, but Bryce just failed to get a touch on it to turn it home. In 35 minutes Sinclair was booked for a foul on Perera on the left corner of the box, but Bews’ kick was just too high.

The Gowfers drew level in 44 minutes when ROBERTS fired in a shot which struck a defender and looped over ‘keeper Allison’s head and dropped into the far corner of the net.

Half-time: Ballingry Rovers 1, Carnoustie Panmure 1.

Carnoustie made a change at half-time with L. Scott replacing Bews. Milne required treatment at the start of the half after a clash with Sinclair which resulted in a fruitless corner. At the other end Rovers won a corner off Millar, but Smith’s kick was cleared by Robertson. Two minutes later Carnoustie went behind again when Bryce burst down the right and his low cross was was fired home from close in by McDONALD.

In 55 minutes a shot by Manzie was blocked for a corner and the kick was taken by Smith out to the edge of the box where Milne clashed with Fleming and was shown a red card with Fleming requiring treatment. The free-kick by Manzie was blocked by the wall and cleared.

On the hour mark Myles was replaced by M. Scott who almost immediately sent in a cross from the right that was met by McIlravey, but he fired wide.

A Rovers corner on the left by Smith was headed clear by Cook where Roberts fouled Manzie outside the box, but Smith’s kick was wasted when Carstairs  fouled ‘keeper Ferrie. In 80 minutes Buggins was replaced by Dailly.

M. Scott fouled Smith, but the free kick was wasted and a minute later McMillan and Manzie were replaced by McIntosh and Campbell. Carnoustie kept pressing and Roberts tried a long range effort, but it went wide, then Cook was fouled just outside the box and McIlravey’s kick was headed over for a corner by Campbell, but this time McIlravey’s kick was cleared by Sinclair.

Right at the end a long ball into the Rovers’ box, by Robertson, was flapped at by ‘keeper Allison, but nobody was able get a shot at the loose ball and the referee blew the whistle to bring to an end a disappointing day for the Gowfers.
