Gowfers’ gaffer Alan McSkimming is all smiles as his side break into the new season with four points already under their belts.
Following on from their opening win over Lochee United last week they drew 2-2 with Armadale Thistle on Saturday.
The boss said: “We started the campaign on the Wednesday against Lochee and got off to a winning start there and then we drew on Saturday against Armadale.
“In both games we’ve had six boys unavailable through a mixture of reasons, so we’re really, really happy with how things are going.
“I think Armadale edged the first half but we dominated the second half and so over the piece it was a fair result. But we were disappointed not to get that third goal.”
Alan added: “It’s a perfect start for us, we’ve just got to keep it going and the more points we can get on the board in the early stages of the season the better. The worst thing is to be chasing points at the end.
“I’m sure we’ll have a really successful season, we’ve got a good squad who have seemed to gel and they are looking forward to the games.”
Tomorrow (Saturday) Carnoustie are away to Camelon Juniors, a team they faced (or didn’t!) far too many times last season. Alan said: “Camelon are one of these teams where we’re all sick of the sight of each other! We’ve both been up and down so many times and their ground suffers in the winter so it’s good to get this one out of the way early in the season.
“We had a huge game against them at the end of last season and we beat them. They are going through a bit of a sticky patch just now as they lost 4-0 last week.
“They’ve lost some boys and gained some over the summer so it’s a different looking side. They are definitely beatable so we’re looking forward to the game.”
Absences will play a part tomorrow again as it is understood that around six players are unavailable, including captain Scott Robertson who is injured.
