Athletic in quarter-finals

IT WAS a good weekend for the local teams in the Evening Telegraph and Post North of Tay Cup, with all three recording victories and Broughty United were the victors in the local derby against Monifieth Tayside in round two of the Bremner Cup.

Broughty also had a good win in the Alliance Cup but Carnoustie Athletic lost out to St James.

Carnoustie Athletic booked a place in the quarter-finals of the North of Tay Cup for the first time in the club’s history when they defeated Tayside Royal.

Etchels opened the scoring for the home team in 63 minutes then put the matter beyond doubt with five minutes left, scoring from the penalty spot after being brought down in the box.
