Keith Gibson admitted he’d prefer a Super League fixture this weekend following Broughty Athletic’s 1-0 win over Newtongrange Star.
The Fed gaffer wants to keep their league momentum going and keep moving away from the relegation zone, but Broughty instead face Forfar West End in the quarter-finals of the GA Engineering Cup.
Gibson and the squad are taking that tie very seriously though, with a final at Tannadice a huge incentive to play for.
But it’s a tough side in their way, with Daryl McKenzie’s West End offering a stern test this weekend.
Keith said: “We’re very happy to beat Newtongrange because it showed we can win ugly. We’ve had good performances and no result so that was pleasing.
“I kind of wish it was a league game this weekend to be honest so we can keep our momentum, but it’s the cup and we want to win it. Forfar will be a tough game for us.”
