West Calder United 0, Carnoustie Panmure 3

The Gowfers were on D.J. Laing East of Scotland Cup business on Saturday when they travelled to Hermand Park to meet West Calder United.

For the tie, manager Alan McSkimming had to make a few changes with Chris Macpherson taking over between the sticks and Steven Narey and Liam Scott coming in to the starting 11.

The homesters kicked off and immediately went on the attack when Brown fed a good ball through to Pagliarulo, but his shot was blocked for a corner by Myles.

The kick was taken by G. Sneddon, but Macpherson got up well in a crowded goalmouth to punch clear. At the other end, Dailly and Faulds chased a ball sent in by Milne, and although Dailly got the ball in the net, he was pulled up for a foul on the home player.

In 10 minutes Milne got right through, but his shot was blocked for a corner by Fox and from Webster’s kick, MYLES head-flicked the ball into the far corner to give Carnoustie the lead.

They kept on the attack and Narey crossed into the far post to Webster, but he headed straight at the ‘keeper. Webster then became the supplier when he sent in a cross for Dailly, but his header was weak and easily held by Pennycook.

In 25 minutes Black was injured and was replaced by Cook. Roberts then received a lecture from the referee for a foul on Sneddon on the half-way line.

Carnoustie had a series of half chances when, first Narey crossed deep into the box, but Milne was offside. Then from a throw in, Dailly back-headed the ball to the same player, but the ball was just nicked away from him by G. Sneddon. Narey again pumped a long ball into the Calder box, but it was well held by the ‘keeper.

Five minutes before the break Brown was booked for a foul on L. Scott. Carnoustie got a scare just on half-time when a shot by Aitken was parried past by Macpherson and the corner by G. Sneddon was headed clear by Myles under pressure from McKenzie.

Half-time: West Calder United 0, Carnoustie Panmure 1.

An early appeal for a penalty by the Gowfers, when Dailly went down in the box, was denied by the referee, but it was probably the right call.

Dailly then laid a chance on for Milne, but he shot straight at the ‘keeper. Calder came close when Brown won a corner off Millar and the kick by R. Sneddon was headed out by Myles only as far as Aitken who shot the loose ball back in through a ruck of players, but luckily for Carnoustie, it hit the foot of the post and was cleared by Cook.

The Gowfers went back on the attack and a corner by Webster was met by Myles, but he headed over. In 58 minutes Calder made their first change when Pagliarulo was replaced by Robertson and a minute later Carnoustie went further ahead.

L. Scott laid the ball along the edge of the box and McILRAVEY blasted it past ‘keeper Pennycook giving him no chance.

In 60 minutes the visitors made another change with Milne being replaced by Perera. McIlravey then had another fine shot from 15 yards, but the ‘keeper held it safely. In 65 minutes Calder replaced Aitken with Fyffe.

With 20 minutes remaining, Carnoustie made sure of the tie with a third goal. L. Scott passed the ball to Webster and his cross pinpointed PERERA who headed strongly past Pennycook from 10 yards.

They should have had a fourth when a Webster corner found Millar on his own at the far post, but his powerful header went past.

In 75 minutes Perera was tripped just outside the box, but the referee booked him for diving which looked a terrible decision. A minute later G. Sneddon was replaced by Carson.

A throw into the box by Fyffe was fumbled by Macpherson, but the referee thought he was being fouled by McKenzie and awarded a free-kick. In 80 minutes Roberts was replaced by Bews.

Calder then had a shot from Carson from 30 yards, but it was well past and although a Fyffe shot from long range was on target, Macpherson held it at the second attempt.

Myles had a chance to increase his scoring rate, but headed a Webster corner over and Calder had a last effort when McKenzie laid the ball off for R. Sneddon, but he shot wide.
