Broughty Athletic 0,
Dundee Violet 1
BROUGHTY Athletic opened their season with a DJ Laing League Cup sectional tie against fellow Premier League team, Dundee Violet, at Whitton Park on Saturday.
Broughty had the first chance 10 minutes when Paul Farquharson’s 25-yard free kick went inches wide of McCafferty’s post.
Five minutes before the break, Paul Farquharson raced clear only to be denied by an excellent last ditch tackle from defender Syme.
Half-time: Broughty Athletic 0, Dundee Violet 0.
Broughty’s MacLeod saw an excellent volley go wide in 60 minutes and five minutes later a Conway free kick was tipped onto the bar by Cormack and cleared away.
Broughty hit the bar in 72 minutes when a Mark Brash shot beat the visitors’ ‘keeper, but unfortunately the ball crashed off the bar and bounced around in the area only to be cleared.
It was from the clearance that the visitors scored when a Pirie cross was deflected off Burns’ leg into the path of MANZIE who finished from six yards.
The last chance of the game fell to Broughty inside the final minute when a Burns header went agonisingly wide of the post with everyone looking on.
