On Saturday Carnoustie Panmure played host to Ballingry Rovers in the McBookie.com East Superleague.

For the match, manager Alan McSkimming brought Steven Cook, Kevin Milne and Neal Ferrie, in goal, into the starting 11 with bench spots going to Rori Bews, Liam Scott, Josh Perera, Chris Macpherson and trialist Murison.

Carnoustie kicked off and quickly won a corner off Fleming, but M. Scott’s kick was wasted when the ball drifted on to the roof of the net and they won another corner minutes later and this time M. Scott’s kick was cleared, at the near post, by Wilson.

Milne then latched on to a loose ball outside the box, but his shot was held by ‘keeper Allison. The Gowfers’ man’s next effort brought a result when Buggins and Dailly combined to set it up for MILNE and he drove the ball home from close range with seven minutes on the clock.

It was all the home side at this point and Black fired a long ball into Rovers’ box which Allison fumbled, but there were no takers for the loose ball. At the other end, Millar fouled Bryce out on the right, but the free kick, by Smith, was cleared by Myles.

In 26 minutes, Carnoustie were shocked when McDonald fed a fine pass to SMITH on the left and he drove a low shot past Ferrie into the far corner of the net.

Then A. Hendry made a good run up the left and sent a cross into the Gowfers’ box, but Millar was alert to the danger and headed clear. Moments later Bryce made ground up the left, but carelessly blasted over.

In 33 minutes Sinclair was booked for a foul on Roberts and two minutes later Rovers looked to be going down to 10 men when Roberts and Wilson both went down at halfway, in a tackle, and Wilson appeared to stamp on Roberts while he was on the ground, but the referee booked both players when it looked like Roberts was innocent and Wilson was the aggressor.

Half-time: Carnoustie Panmure 1, Ballingry Rovers 1.

Smith became the first caution of the second half for a foul on Black and the Carnoustie man’s free kick was blocked for a corner which Milne took, but it was cleared by Campbell. Another Gowfers’ corner, by Milne, was flapped at by Allison, but the referee gave a free kick for a foul on the keeper. Carnoustie’s Myles then played a great ball to Cook, on the right, but his cross was headed just past by Milne.

In 65 minutes Rovers made a change when A. Hendry was replaced by Brown. Sinclair gave Carnoustie a corner which was taken by Black, but it was cleared easily by Fleming and Ferrie did well for the Gowfers holding a Gray snap shot from a loose ball, 30 yards out.

In 75 minutes Buggins was replaced by Bews. Soon after, Black was then fouled by Smith, on the left, and Bews took the kick to Myles whose shot was blocked for a corner, by Campbell. Bews took the kick again, but Myles headed past.

Five minutes later the Gowfers made a second change with Dailly being replaced by Perera.

The Gowfers then came close when Milne had a shot from the edge of the box, but it was just past, with keeper Allison beaten and Rovers nearly had the last say when a corner in the final minute, by Smith, caused a problem until Buchan handled the ball in the box to give a free kick to Carnoustie.

Teams: Carnoustie Panmure – Ferrie, Myles, Buggins (Bews 75), Millar, Robertson, Roberts, Cook, Black, Dailly (Perera 80), Milne, M. Scott. Substitutes not used: Murison (T), L. Scott and Macpherson (GK).

Tomorrow’s match

Tomorrow (Saturday), the Gowfers face what could be one of their toughest tests of the season when they welcome Bo’ness United for a game in the McBookie.com East Superleague.

The BUs currently lie in second spot in the table, six points behind Newtongrange Star, with two games in hand and look certain to be one of the front runners when it comes to the league title and they still have a chance of winning the Scottish.

When the sides met, back in January, down at Newton Park, the Lothians club ran out 3-0 winners and this time around, Gowfers’ manager,Alan McSkimming will be going all out to reverse that result. The game gets under way at 2.30 p.m.
