Fed’s season creaks to a close - but cup final is still to come!

BROUGHTY Athletic have had mixed fortunes over the last seven days as they complete their ACA Sports East Region Premier League programme.

Despite an excellent game for the neutral spectator on Saturday, visitors Broxburn Athletic scored the winner in this five-goal thriller.

There was a better result on Tuesday, however, when the Fed travelled to play Armadale Thistle, and came away with a point after a two-all draw.

Broughty went behind in the 15th minute on Saturday when Stark pulled down Jefferey inside the box.

Referee Duncan awarded Broxburn Athletic the penalty which striker JEFFEREY converted well.

The visitors equalised in 30 minutes when CRAIK finished at the back post after an excellent move.

And hopes were high in the 47th minute when MYLES started the second half in good form by nodding home a Winter corner.

However, the visitors equalised when Smith was caught ball-watching in the 70th minute and substitute GEDDES cut inside and side-footed home.

Spectators were entertained by end-to-end action in an excellent contest which could have gone either way.

However, it was Broxburn who grabbed the winner in the 80th minute when a cross-cum-shot from YOUNG deceived everyone and went in off the back post.

Other results: St Andrews United 1, Penicuik Athletic 0; Glenrothes 5, Ballingry Rovers 2; Armadale Thistle 1 Thornton Hibs 0.

Armadale Thistle 2

Broughty Athletic 2

An Iain MacLeod double on Tuesday evening, which twice gave Broughty Athletic the lead, ultimately earned a share of the points for the Fed in Armadale.

In the other Premier League match played on Tuesday Penicuik defeated visitors Whitburn 5-1.

That left Penicuik sixth in the league, with Broughty seventh.
