October meet

MEMBERS of Friockheim and District Walkers attended the October meeting to The Falls of Damff and Unich.

On a sunny autumnal day, the group of 23 left the car park at 9.30 a.m. to follow the north shore of Loch Lee stopping for refreshments at the Water of Lee crossing.

Two members branched off to climb Hunt Hill (705m), the remainder climbing the rough path past the Falls of Unich and the Falls of Damff. The group continued eastwards to enjoy lunch overlooking Loch Lee. Five members traversed over to the viewpoint at Craig Maskeldie before following the group down the Shank of Inchgrundle to rejoin the path at Glenlee.

Although boggy underfoot in parts, the excellent weather conditions afforded fine panoramic views with Mount Keen, Lochnagar and the snow covered Cairngorms clearly visible. The day was rounded off with a fine high tea at the Panmure Arms in Edzell.

The next indoor meeting is at the Star Inn, Friockheim, 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 15. The next walk will be to Mount Keen on Sunday, November 18. Anyone wishing to attend contact Allison on 01575 575206.
