Gaffer aims to get back to winning ways

Gowfers’ gaffer Alan McSkimming said he and his players were disappointed when their North/Tayside Inter Region Cup first round tie against near neighbours Lochee United was called off on Saturday.

But he said it was not entirely unexpected after the heavy frost and low temperatures on Thursday.

He told GazetteSport: “It was a game which could not have come at a better time. It was a break from the league campaign and we focused our attention towards a wee cup run and hopefully getting back to winning ways before the league campaign resumed.

“Unfortunately, it was not to be.”

He revealed that there were a few injury worries on the Saturday so it has given the players a week longer to recover.

The boss continued: “We booked a session of indoor football at Carnoustie Leisure Centre which suited us, as most of the boys are from the area.

“It was a good session and the players had a healthy workout. It allowed them to focus their attentions towards this week’s home match against Armadale.

“Armadale is one of the promoted teams this season and although they are sitting just below us in the league and we have a couple of games in hand, it is a game which, if we win, will create a gap going into the festive period.”
