ACSC ‘banking’ on a positive result

ARBROATH Community Sports Club, from the Midlands Football Association, has the opportunity to create a bit of history by becoming the first Arbroath Amateur team to win the Bremner Cup in its 82 year history.

The Bremner Cup is the biggest cup competition in the Midlands Area, encompassing all the MAFA teams, with the final being played at Dundee United’s home ground, Tannadice Park.

The road to the final has been a hard one with ACSC taking on a number of tricky opponents in each round.

In the first round they took on Tayside Fire Brigade from the Premier Division and recorded a hard fought 3-2 victory. They then faced promotion hopefuls from the Second Division, Strathmore Athletic, away from home. On a dour day the ACSC turned in a fine performance winning 7-0. In round three and the quarter-finals they were pitted against fellow Division One opponents, Douglas FC and Castle Huntly AFC, respectively, beating them both 2-1.

The semi-final produced ACSC’s sternest test as they faced the much fancied St James from the Premier Division, but against the odds they produced a very good performance, winning 1-0 with the only goal scored by Sean Gatrick.

The final will take place on Monday (May 7) with a 7 p.m. kick-off. Their opponents are Bank Street Athletic who currently sit top of the Premier League - their only defeat this season coming in the Scottish Cup.

ACSC players and coaching staff have extended their thanks to sponsors who have kitted them out for the final; Coast, Intervention Rentals, Reekie Steeltec, Keillor Graphics and Gorilla Corrosion.

All players are reminded that the bus leaves Hercules Den at 5.15 p.m. Supporters can travel on the bus and details can be obtained by calling 07966567330.
