Gowfers’ boss Alan McSkimming was delighted with his side’s performance at West Calder on Saturday when they scored three goals without reply.
He told GazetteSport: “We were glad to get to the next round of the D.J. Laing East of Scotland Cup. We have often stumbled against similar teams in previous seasons and I think that was in the back of the players’ minds on Saturday.
“But credit to the guys. They showed great character and we were lucky enough to come off the park three goals to the good.
“There were a couple of times during the game when West Calder had possession and they made us work for our goals. The scoreline makes it appear comfortable but there were moments when things were a bit tense. We are happy to be in the next round and look forward to see who we get next.”
The manager revealed that club captain Scott Robertson is ready to return to action after being out for about six weeks. He went on: “We are looking to get him some game time now so we can assess if he is fully recovered and see how long it will take to get him back. We have had injury problems and have not had a full strength squad until now so it has been easier for the management team with regard to team selection.”
The boss said that his players have a tricky league match tomorrow (Saturday) at Broxburn, who play on an Astroturf pitch.
He explained: “It’s a different style of game and we are looking to go down there and really put them under pressure to try and get the points. We hope to get something from the game to keep our winning momentum going.”
