Gowfers boss hails commanding performance

Carnoustie Panmure defeated Lochee Harp 4-0 in what Alan McSkimming described as a “confident and commanding performance” this week.

Marc Scott hit a brace while Pat Smith and new signing Jamie McCabe were both on the scoresheet, and the Gowfers gaffer believes the side should have had even more goals.

But the boss said it would be unfair to be overly critical of his players after what was an impressive opener to their pre-season campaign.

Alan said: “It was a really confident and commanding performance. We were in control for the game for pretty much most of it.

“We had most of the possession and although we scored four goals, we had plenty of other chances to go and score a few more. Over the piece we’re really pleased with the way we performed.

“A couple of the new faces were involved and got 90 minutes under their belt, and they’re really starting to gel with the guys already. There are a lot of positives to take from our first friendly.

“We knew the friendlies we’ve taken would give us an opportunity to change things around, try new things. We were light on numbers and only had 11 of our own players available due to holidays. We got a few trialists in to help us out which was great.

“We weren’t anywhere near full strength but it was good to see the depth we have in the guys we’ve got.

“I couldn’t have asked for much more to be honest, anything more would be too critical for the first pre-season friendly.”

The manager was full of praise for new boy McCabe, who could have got more than one goal in a fine debut performance.

McSkimming continued: “Jamie McCabe was excellent. We’ve brought Jamie in to score goals for us this season. From going on what we saw on Wednesday night, it’s going to be an exciting 12 months and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can achieve. He’s a fantastic football player and he’s got a good eye for a goal.

“He was unlucky not to score one or two more because he had other chances. These things will come for him again though and I’m sure he will put them away.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the Gowfers continue their pre-season friendly programme with a trip to Ogilvie Park and a meeting with North East Division side Arbroath Vics.

On Wednesday evening, Alan McSkimming’s men welcome local amateurs Carnoustie YM, to Laing Park.
