Kirrie Thistle 2, Carnoustie Panmure 1
THE GOWFERS made the trip to Westview Park to meet Kirrie Thistle on Wednesday evening in the third game of the preliminary rounds of the D.J. Laing League Cup.
The visitors came close in 14 minutes when Clark fed the ball to L. Scott who in turn found to Dailly but his low shot was saved by the feet of Hutchison.
Half-time: Kirrie Thistle 0, Carnoustie Panmure 0.
The floodlights were put on at half-time but, as some of them weren’t working, it caused dark areas on the pitch. Ten minutes after the restart, Thistle took the lead when F. Smith sent in a good cross finding SIEVWRIGHT who fired home.
They went further ahead in 62 minutes when S. Robertson was adjudged to have clipped Cooney in the box. The referee awarded a penalty and SIEVWRIGHT scored from the spot.
The Gowfers pulled one back three minutes later when Neave sent the ball into the Kirrie goalmouth and the partial clearance fell to M. SCOTT who drilled it past the ‘keeper.
They then should have had a penalty when the ball was played into the box and a Kirrie player stopped it with both hands, but possibly due to the rain and darkness, the referee failed to spot it.
