Gowfers’ home league match against Musselburgh Athletic on Saturday was postponed early in the morning because of a frozen playing surface.
When committee members arrived at the park to prepare, they found that, as a result of a heavy overnight frost, the pitch was frozen solid.
Due to the Lothians club having to travel, an early decision was required and so match referee Mike Roncone was called in at 9.30 a.m. He had no hesitation in declaring the surface unplayable and the McBookie.com East Superleague game was off.
Other McBookie.com East Superleague results were - Kelty Hearts 1, Broxburn Athletic 4; Hill of Beath Hawthorn 4, St Andrews United 3; Bonnyrigg Rose 0, Camelon Juniors 1; Armadale Thistle 0, Bo’ness United 7; Linlithgow Rose 2, Tayport 2; Carnoustie Panmure v Musselburgh Athletic, Newtongrange Star v Lochee United, Sauchie Juniors v Ballingry Rovers, all postponed.
Tomorrow (Saturday), the Gowfers get a brief respite from trying to collect league points when they head for Carmuirs Park to meet Camelon Juniors in the fourth round of the Scottish Junior Cup.
The pair were due to meet in the league three weeks ago but that game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
‘The Mariners’ may have a slight advantage in the tie in that they managed to play last week, winning 1-0 away to second placed Bonnyrigg Rose while the Gowfers were forced to sit idle.
Tomorrow’s tie gets under way at 1.45 p.m.
