Gowfers gaffer hoping to increase side’s firepower

Carnoustie Panmure boss Alan McSkimming believes his side’s last-day triumph over Camelon shows what they can do with some quality up front.

The 4-1 victory lifted the Gowfers to 13th in the Super League, one place above the relegation play-off spot.

And the manager said he has players in mind that should be able to come to Laing Park and give him the clinical presence up front that he desires.

He said: “We’ve been playing like that for some weeks and the difference was that we were clinical. We showed that if we can bring guys in that will find the back of net, with the nucleus of players we’ve got, we can go really high up this table.

“What we now need to do to challenge is to get the right players in. It’s top of our agenda to get a couple of goalscorers, some creative guys at the end of the park.

“There are guys out there that we want to speak to. Hopefully we can bring them in.

“The positive for us is being in the Super League still. It gives us an advantage for the players we’re wanting to bring in. There’s no better league to play in and it’s the league most guys want to play in.

“Most guys we’re looking at are in the league below us, playing below their level.

“Our players are needing a break away to switch off from football for a couple of weeks. Between them going on holiday and myself and the coaches, we’ll be making contact about renewing contracts and there’ll probably be a few boys leaving. We need to analyse what we’re needing and where.

“We’ve got a rough idea of what we want to bring in for next season. We’ll be targeting these players in the coming weeks.”
